What are the features of residential elevation drawing? This unit we learned how to draw in cad in different layers to represent different elevations. Some features of residential elevation drawing includes offsetting, dimensions, writing notes to tell specific information regarding the house plans, switching between layers to know the type of material needed to make the house, and construction lines. We drew construction lines down and across from previous drawing to create the elevations drawing on an accurate scale. I really enjoyed this unit because of its real world application. This has the potential to be used in the real world because architects and engineers need to know what to do while making a house. A feature of a residential elevation drawing is the different posts and columns on the decks. Some columns go all the way through, into the ground. Others are just a part of the railing and are represented by a different layer. One of the hardest parts of Unit 14 and Unit 15 was determining which layer to use for each part of the house. When I was finished drawing every elevation, I went and looked at the pictures from the old house that Mr. Grummer gave us and I saw that a lot of my layers weren’t representing the correct parts of the house. I changed them all and now my house looks good. Another feature of a residential elevation drawing is the hatching. Hatching is used for a lot of things, but in my drawing I used it for the concrete and the roof. There are a lot of different hatching patterns and the concrete and roof ones are my favorites. This unit was a hard but very fun unit at the end of everything.
